This qualification will prepare you for working with injured clients. You will develop a number of skills which include: skills to conduct subjective and objective assessments, covering passive and resisted range of movements, posture analysis, functional and special tests, skills to work safely and effectively on muscles and para-tendon injuries using a variety of soft tissue techniques and you will be able to advise on treatment modalities to support soft tissue repair.
Students will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to apply, adapt and evaluate sports massage methods for maintenance and corrective purposes. You will develop an understanding of the protocols for use for each soft tissue technique and be able to evaluate the effects critically.
Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy or equivalent.
The course comprises of the practical aspects of sports massage and learning the correct techniques to a competent standard. Theoretical learning will also take place and learners will be expected to complete assignments by agreed deadlines. Practical assessments is also part of this qualification in a commercial setting.
Graduates of this qualification will be able to gain employment as a Level 4 Sports Massage Practitioner, providing a range of advanced sports massage techniques for recent non-acute injuries and for pre-existing conditions. This may include working in clinics, sporting teams or as a mobile therapist and may be in an employed or self-employed context. Progression is also available onto the VTCT Level 5 Certificate in Sports Massage.
