The World is Opening Up: Erasmus+ is Back!
Following the news that the UK will rejoin the Erasmus+ programme in 2027, South West College is gearing up to take our students global. We believe international experience should be for everyone, regardless of background. We are currently busy strengthening our European partnerships and paving the way for you to study and train abroad. Watch this space—your European adventure starts here!
South West College’s (SWC) participation in the Erasmus+ Programme directly supports its mission to provide inclusive, high‑quality lifelong learning that enriches lives and strengthens the social, civic and economic wellbeing of the region. As a Higher (HE) in Further Education (FE) College in Northern Ireland, SWC is focused on enhancing vocational excellence, improving employability and widening access to opportunities, particularly for students who may not typically benefit from international experiences.
The College is a leading provider of HE and works in partnership with three local universities: Ulster University, Queen’s University Belfast and The Open University. While the College does not hold degree awarding powers, it is responsible for delivering modules and programmes of study in line with national qualification frameworks and maintaining the academic standards set by the awarding bodies and university Higher Education Institutions (HEI) which validate its programmes.
Our mission is to work, in partnership with Erasmus+, to provide inclusive, lifelong learning opportunities that enhance the lives of students and staff, support business and promote community, economic and social wellbeing.
The College aims to particate in both Key Action 1 (KA1): ‘Learning Mobility of Individuals’ and Key Action 2 (KA2): ‘Cooperation Among Organisations and Institutions’, facilitating mobility projects for HE students and staff and partnerships for cooperation. Participation in Erasmus+ enables the College to expand learners’ horizons through study and training mobilities, helping them to develop their technical knowledge and skills, supporting the region by addressing local skills gaps and foster innovation in teaching and learning. It also strengthens cross‑border and European partnerships which are especially valuable in Northern Ireland’s unique post‑conflict context, where productivity challenges and social inclusion remain key priorities.
Through Erasmus+, the College gains a structured, funded and well‑supported framework to deliver transformative mobility and development opportunities for both students and staff, addressing key issues including skills gaps, productivity challenges and widening participation priorities. Staff will benefit through teaching and training mobilities and supporting the development and delivery of blended programmes. Our participation in the Erasmus+ Programme will directly support this mission by:
- Broadening the horizons for our HE students and support personal transformation, especially those who may not usually have access to international opportunities and the promotion of social and economic wellbeing.
- Building partnerships and strengthening our cross-border and European collaborations• Continuing to embed excellence and innovation in teaching and learning
- Enhancing industry relevance to support businesses and our local communities through international engagement and exposure It is our intention to avail of opportunities under Key Action 1: ‘Mobility of Individuals’ and Key Action 2: ‘Co-operation Among Organisations and Institutions’
