Expand your skills, knowledge and understanding of graphic design with this exciting and comprehensive higher education programme. Designed for those looking to gain employment in the creative industries through working towards building a solid foundation of knowledge in Graphic Design, the course supports and guides students through all the aspects of contemporary graphic design practice, enabling them to build up confidence and develop new skills.
This client and project-led course will teach you the elements of visual design for both web and print delivery. You will work on creative live briefs to ensure you have practical experience of the design processes. Skills Focus funding available towards course fees for eligible employers to up skill staff or for self employed students. Please ask for further details.

The minimum entry qualifications for the programme are: 32 UCAS Tariff Points: This must include one full 6-unit award (GCE A2 or equivalent at A- level). 4 GCSE grades A* to C (or equivalent), and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as Maths and English, however students may be required to have GCSE English for articulation on to degree programmes. Access Diploma: Pass relevant subject-related Access course with a minimum of 48 credits at level 3 or above including 14 at Merit.
Project briefs are set for each assignment and students are encouraged to develop a personal response to each task. Students are expected to complete research and develop their own ideas, recording their own progress along the way.
Assessment is through practical projects, where students tackle a range of client-initiated briefs, design competitions and studio projects. The curriculum mixes research, problem-solving and teamwork skills with theory and practice in areas such as typography, colour, layout, publishing, and creative advertising. This will include the production of 2D and 3D work with accompanying sketchbooks and written work. This will culminate in a final major project and end-of-the-year show. There are no formal examinations. All activities are supported through one-to-one tutorials and group discussions to inform personal progress and aid assessment. Assessment is continuous throughout the course, with assignments being graded at the end of each brief.
The BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Art & Design offers a progression route for learners on successful completion of the course. Students may also progress to other universities to complete a degree in associated studies. Students are usually accepted onto their second or third year dependent on portfolio, interview and satisfactory completion of this course. The course is designed to prepare students for Direct entry into the workplace.
The course will allow students to develop their technical and creative skills, opening avenues of future study in various design disciplines. The course teaches industry standard software and processes, meaning a student could pursue work immediately after completion. Fees are payable annually.
