Overview

Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair covers complex faults in lorries and coaches. Learners will be taught how to diagnose faults using the correct diagnostic procedure. This qualification is recognised in over 300 countries. Learners will gain status as a fully qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.

You will be able to inspect, test and diagnose faults on a range of heavy vehicles. You will gain skills to meet and deal with customers in a professional manner, manage your own time and keep appropriate records.

This course is suitable for learners progressing from NVQ Level 2 HVR or mechanics currently working in the motor industry with minimum five years' industrial experience. Learners will have to undergo an interview to establish an aptitude and desire to work in the automotive industry.

The units will be assessed by the gathering of work-based evidence into a portfolio. The authenticity, sufficiency and validity of the evidence will be judged by the assessor. There are also online tests which require a pass mark of 60%.

This course leads directly to a career in the Automotive Industry or progression can be to the Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Automotive Diagnostic Techniques or a Level 5 Foundation Degree in an engineering discipline.

Learners will be employed in a garage and attend college one day per week. You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT at level 2 if you do not have a GCSE grade in these subjects.
