Overview

The Level 1 in Vehicle Maintenance is an introductory qualification for those who want to start a career in the retail motor industry. They will develop the skills and the knowledge required to progress on to higher qualifications.

You will learn how to remove and replace parts on a range of vehicles. You will also be able to fit and repair a range of tyres.

Learners are not required to hold any previous qualifications or experience to enter into this course. They will be interviewed to establish their desire and aptitude to work in the motor vehicle industry.

Learners are assessed in the college by using the following methods: Observation, Assessor testimony and Verbal questioning of essential knowledge. Learners also have to sit one multiple choice test which requires a pass rate of 60%.

Successful learners can progress to the Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair - Traineeship / Apprenticeship NI or into employment.

Learners will be placed in a garage for one day per week and attend college four days per week. You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have grade Cs in these subjects. You will also study broader transferable skills in Employability and Personal and Social Development.
