Funding Support for Students
The aim of this course is to build upon learners' interest in Science, to develop their skills, deepen their understanding, and prepare them for progression into Higher Education or into employment in the Science industry.
The broad based and applied nature of the course is designed to equip students with the skills they need for a variety of scientific careers. Previous students have pursued careers in Healthcare, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Environmental Science, Food Science, Biomedical Science, Pharmacy, Dental Nursing and Stratified Medicine.
The course will also develop learners' practical skills and expertise through hands on laboratory experience, industry workshops and project based learning.
Students may complete a one year Foundation Diploma (1.5 A'Level equivalent) in Applied Science. Please speak to the course coordinator for more information.
Four GCSEs, including a science related subject, at Grade C or above. Entry is subject to a successful interview. If you do not have grade C or above in English, Maths and ICT you will be required to completed Essential Skills qualifications in these subjects as part of your programme of study.
As a practically focused, vocational course, module assessment will be by a variety of means, including projects and coursework assignments, with written and on-line examinations. These will offer opportunities to achieve Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria, and will be tracked through the course to form one final grade for each unit. This will equate to UCAS points similar to A'Level grades.
On successful completion, learners may progress to a range of Higher Education courses such as the Pearson Higher National Certificate in Applied Science Biology, Foundation Degree in Applied and Medical Sciences validated by Ulster University validated by Ulster University (Enniskillen Campus) or other Honours Degree programmes in science and related areas. Alternatively, you could move into employment within the science sector.
This programme provides many progression opportunities towards a variety of careers, such as Biomedical Science, Nursing, Psychology, Food and Nutrition, Environmental Science, Criminology, Veterinary Sciences, Physiotherapy, Speech, and Language and Equine Studies.
