Funding Support for Students
This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in a children’s setting. This qualification confirms competence in these areas and serves as the required qualification for all new practitioners for registration and regulatory requirements in Northern Ireland.
This qualification is suitable for learners who wish to work or are working in a supervised role in children’s care, learning and development in Northern Ireland.
Learners should be aged 16 or above to undertake this qualification.
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include: direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task. This qualification requires learners to complete a 350-400 hour work placement.
Learners could progress to the following job roles:
•pre-school assistants•nursery assistants•creche assistants•out of school childcare worker.

Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies, validated by Queen’s University Belfast, quality assured by Stranmillis University College (Part-Time)
City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Children's Care Learning and Development
