Overview

This Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery qualification is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career within the Construction industry. It is necessary for applicants to be in appropriate employment or work placement. The course supports the knowledge and Skills development required for access to the Carpentry or Joinery working environment as a competent tradesperson.

You will learn the essential practical skills and knowledge necessary to enable you to gain employment in either Carpentry (Site) or Joinery (Bench). These are covered in a range of practical and theory modules.

Year One

  • Interpret construction drawings and information
  • Understand various Construction Methods
  • Carry out First and Second Fix Carpentry Techniques
  • Use a range of Woodworking Tools and equipment
  • Manufacture a Range of Joinery Products

Applicants will be required to hold a minimum of a Level 1 qualification, defined as 4 GCSEs at grade D-G. However the following grades must be held in Maths and English Maths Grade D English grade E Applicants who do not meet the enhanced entry criteria will enter an Introductory Phase of the Traineeship. Upon enrollment trainees will undertake initial assessments which will confirm whether they should enter full Traineeship or the Introductory Phase.

This qualification will be assessed via a combination of knowledge testing, practical assessments, work based evidence and direct observation in the workplace.

Achievement of this qualification will enable the learner to follow a career in their chosen field with progression to Level 3 Bench Joinery Apprenticeship NI or Level 3 Site Joinery Apprenticeship NI.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT at an appropriate level if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skills in English, Maths and Information Technology. You will also study broader transferable skills in Employability and Personal and Social Development where appropriate.
