Overview

This Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Site Joinery qualification is designed to equip learners with the Knowledge and Skills to pursue a career within the Construction industry. Site Carpentry is site based working on domestic and commercial buildings. You will need to be employed to study this qualification. The course supports the Knowledge and Skills development requirements for access to all levels into the Carpentry and Joinery working environment.

  • Site Carpentry Optional units:
  • Learners must achieve two units from the optional units. 236 Erecting Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace
  • Erecting Roof Structure Carcassing Components in the Workplace 
  • Maintaining Non-structural and structural Components in the Workplace
  • Bench Joinery  Optional units
  • Producing CAD Setting Out Details in the Workplace 
  • Producing Setting Out Details for Bespoke Architectural Joinery Products in the Workplace
  • Producing Wood and Wood-based Products Using Computer Numerically Controlled / Numerically Controlled Machinery (CNC/NC) in the Workplace

It is expected that learners have successfully gained the Level 2 qualification before progressing to Level 3 or have substantial industry experience in this field.

The course is assessed through a series of competence based assessments within college and the work place plus end of unit tests.

Achievement of this qualification will enable the learner to follow a career in Carpentry or Joinery. On completion students can progress onto Higher Education qualifications such as Level 4/5 Foundation Degree programmes including Ulster University Construction Engineering with Surveying Foundation Degree HLA.

You will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to interpret drawings, organise work, measure, mark out, cut and errect traditional roofs and prefabricated rood trusses, fil felt membranes and batons for roof tiles and slates, carry out 1st fix operations (before Plastering) i.e. fitting floor joists, laying flooring, erecting stud walls, fitting drylining and plasterboard, fitting doorframes etc. You will also learn how to carry out 2nd fix Operations (after plastering) i.e. hang doors & fit locks, fit architraves and skirting boards.
