Overview

This Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery qualification is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career within the Construction industry. Learners will benefit from tutors with industry experience, state of the art facilities and resources and real work experience.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skills in English, Maths and Information Technology. you will also study broader transferable skills in Employability and Personal and Social Development.

Year One

  • Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • Use of a wide range of tools and equipment
  • Measuring, Marking Out and Manufacture of a Range of Basic Joints used in the Construction of a Variety of Projects such as Stairs, Windows, Doors and other Furniture

There are no formal entry requirement for this qualification, however learners must have the potential to successfully gain the qualification.

The course is assessed through completion of a practical task manual in the workshop, and theory-based assessment completed in class under exam conditions.

This Level 1 qualification will give you an introduction to the hand skills and knowledge required for you to progress onto the Level 2 Joinery Traineeship or Apprenticeship qualification or into work.

You will have basic practical and knowledge skills necessary to gain employment and progress on to level 2. These are covered in a range of practical and theory modules.
