This qualification is intended for those who want to gain the practical skills and knowledge in the plumbing and heating sector to work as a competent tradesperson.
This programme of study incorporates technical training necessary for onsite installation and maintenance of modular plumbing and heating systems and technologies. It should enable you to select and use relevant knowledge of hot water, cold water, and central heating and sanitation systems. In addition it should develop practical skills such as pipework fabrication and jointing and enable you to complete the installation and maintenance of plumbing and heating systems.
Applicants will be required to hold a minimum of a Level 1 qualification, defined as 4 GCSEs at grade D-G. However the following grades must be held in Maths and English Maths Grade D English grade D Applicants who do not meet the enhanced entry criteria will enter an Introductory Phase of the Traineeship. Upon enrollment trainees will undertake initial assessments which will confirm whether they should enter full Traineeship or the Introductory Phase.
Underpinning theory is assessed through 10 online Evolve examinations. Students also complete practical assignments in the workshop. An onsite portfolio must also be completed to evidence competence in installing and maintaining plumbing and heating systems in a work environment. This includes the use of onsite observations, photographs, oral questioning, witness testimonies and candidate job records.
On completion students can progress onto Level 3 Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeship NI.
Applicants over 16yrs must secure a relevant work placement to enter the programme as a trainee or alternatively applicants must secure a relevant paid apprenticeship with an employer. All students will be given opportunity to participate in external skills competitions, social excursions and educational trips.
