Overview

This Level 2 Bench Joinery qualification is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career within the Construction industry. Bench Joinery is Workshop based, manufacturing joinery components used in the Construction and service industries. The course supports the knowledge and skills development required for access to all levels within the Carpentry and Joinery working environment.

You will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to measure, mark out and manufacture a range of joinery components such as stairs, windows, doors, kitchen units, bedroom and office furniture, shop fronts etc. You will also learn how to operate woodworking machinery.

Applicants will be required to hold a minimum of a Level 1 qualification, defined as 4 GCSEs at grade D-G. However the following grades must be held in Maths and English Maths Grade D English grade E Applicants who do not meet the enhanced entry criteria will enter an Introductory Phase of the Traineeship. Upon enrollment trainees will undertake initial assessments which will confirm whether they should enter full Traineeship or the Introductory Phase.

Achievement of this qualification will be assessed via a combination of knowledge testing, practical assessments, work based evidence and direct observation in the workplace.

This qualification will give you a robust understanding of the skills, knowledge and understanding required for you to enter a work environment or progress onto the Level 3.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT at an appropriate level if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skills in English, Maths and Information technology. You will also study broader transferable skills in Employability and personal and Social Development where appropriate.
