Funding Support for Students
This qualification has been designed to provide an understanding of the children and young people's sector. This also gives an introduction to the practical skills and knowledge required to work in this area.
In the Level 2 Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development learners must achieve 48 credits which can be achieved through successful completion of the following mandatory units: Context, principles and values that underpin practice, Communication and partnership working, Safeguarding children, Keeping children safe, health and well, Support children’s personal care and nutrition, Supporting children’s development, Support children’s play, learning and development and Contribute to the support of children with disabilities and/or special needs.

Minimum six points at GCSE plus a Grade D in GCSE English or Essential Skills Literacy and Numeracy Level 1. Preference will be given to GCSE qualifications in English and Maths at grade C or above. Learners must complete an Access NI check and be successful at interview.
This competence based qualification is assessed in the learner's work placement as they undertake their normal work. Learners are required to secure placements in Early Years settings, which include the (0-5 years 11 months) age group. Methods of assessment are largely written assignments and observations. Learners must complete a minimum of 350 hours in an appropriate placement setting.
Learners have opportunities for employment as: Child-minder, Nursery Assistant, Sure Start Assistant, Playgroup Assistant. There is also the opportunity for progression to the Level 3 Children's Care, Learning and Development Diploma and other related qualifications in the sector subject to meeting particular course entry requirements.
