South West College (SWC) was delighted to welcome local schools at the Erne Campus to take part in the Cyber Challenge North West, an interactive event designed to inspire interest in cybersecurity and digital careers.
The event hosted by SWC was organised by CyberFirst NI and ZeroDays, with support from Cyber Ireland and NI Cyber. At the centre of the day was a cyber themed ‘Capture the Flag’ competition, where over 60 students from 4 schools: Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, Fivemiletown College, Mount Lourdes Grammar School and St Fanchea’s College, worked through practical digital challenges that reflected real world cybersecurity scenarios. With a live scoreboard participants contested for the top spot, with Clare Thang & Mabim Gribbin from Enniskillen Royal Grammar School ultimately securing first place on the day.
The initiative aimed to build awareness of online safety, develop problem solving skills and encourage participants to consider future opportunities in the growing cyber sector.
The event provided pupils with hands on experience of the technologies and thinking used to protect digital systems, while connecting them with organisations working at the forefront of cybersecurity education and industry development.
Heather Ellison Deputy Head of Department SWC, said:
“Events like this play an important role in helping young people discover their potential in cyber security and gain insight into the wide range of career opportunities available.
“Cyber Challenge North West forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the regional digital skills pipeline and encourage collaboration between education and industry to support the next generation of talent. We are grateful to everyone who took part, and particularly to our industry partners for their continued support and engagement.
“At South West College, we provide clear progression pathways from Level 2 to Level 6, equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.”
