This foundation course is highly practical and designed to support the development of creative skills and a comprehensive portfolio of work for progression to university.
This qualification has been designed around holistic, explorative, and integrated creative teaching approaches that are conducive to deep learning and skills development, preparing learners for progression. Content and assessment criteria are designed to encompass all specialist pathways within the art, design, and media sectors.
Following initial exploration and experimentation, learners can identify a specialist pathway they wish to focus on or continue to work broadly across multiple specialist areas. The Exploratory phase will encourage experimental practice and creative risk-taking before leading toward the final major project and End of Year Show.
One A Level with 4 GCSEs grades A*-C, or Edexcel Extended Diploma in Art and Design or equivalent. Entry is subject to a successful interview.
You’ll be assessed throughout the year and you’ll be expected to complete a range of assignments on an ongoing basis. This includes the production of practical projects with accompanying sketchbooks and written work. Units are delivered by coursework, which is internally assessed and externally moderated. There are no exams.
Students may progress onto Foundation Degree in Visual Media Arts (validated by The Open University) which leads to the BSc (Hons) Top Up Visual Media Arts (validated by The Open University) both at South West College and offered with a Film or Games pathway.
