Funding Support for Students
This Diploma is aimed at those working with children and young People from 0-19 years, concentrating on Early Years Practice. The qualification meets the minimum standards for managing Child Care settings as set out in DHSSPS Child-minding and Day Care (Children under 12). It is designed to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills including those relating to leading teams and managing resources within children and young people’s settings.
This qualification has been designed to: provide a broad understanding of the children and young people’s sector and to develop and enhance the practical skills and knowledge required;enable learners to make an informed assessment of their own aptitude for work in this sector and to make informed decisions about careers;encourage learners to reach a level of knowledge and skills that will facilitate progress into further vocational learning or to potential employment in the sector;encourage learners to value continued learning and remain in the learning process;allow learners to learn, develop and practice selected skills required for progression in the sector;provides an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills that will aid progression to a management role for those practitioners who wish to follow this career pathway.
You must achieve a minimum of 90 credits from mandatory and optional units delivered over two years to pass this qualification. For example:

This qualification is for senior practitioners who are Managers, Deputy Managers or Assistant Managers working in Early Years settings or Children and Young People’s settings. To be eligible you must hold a minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare or have extensive experience working with children. Preference will be given to those that have GCSE English and Maths or equivalent. Students will be expected to achieve this by the end of the course if they do not already have it.
The primary assessment method for this competence-based qualification will take place in the workplace under real work conditions, using observations and professional discussion by a qualified assessor and/or testimony from an expert witness. A portfolio of evidence will provide written evidence for assignments, self-reflective accounts and the implementation of new programmes within the setting.
This course provides for progression in your employment or into Higher Education. This course meets the minimum standards for managing Childcare settings as set out in DHSSPS Child-minding and Day Care (Children under 12).
