Introduction to Greenhouse Gas Accounting for IT is an entry-level course designed for IT professionals and learners interested in sustainability within the tech sector. This hands-on course guides you through the complete greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting process—from source identification, scope categories, boundary setting, data collection methods, emission factor selection, to emissions calculations and reporting—with a focus on technology-specific applications. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Through video lessons and a practical lab featuring an IT hardware manufacturer case study, you'll develop skills that enable you to measure, report on, and ultimately reduce the carbon footprint of IT operations and digital infrastructure. The course helps you understand the environmental impacts of technology while preparing you to address key sustainability questions that are increasingly important for regulatory compliance and stakeholder expectations in the tech industry.

You will learn about fundamentals of GHG Accounting such as climate fundamentals of net zero and why do organisations conduct greenhouse gas accounting, how to approach GHG accounting – the GHG calculation process and key principles and setting GHG inventory boundaries, how to calculate GHG Emissions and how to build a GHG Accounting model.
