Overview

The course is for those who have completed the IMI level 2 Award in Electric / Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance and wish to expand their knowledge to include electric and hybrid system repair and replacement. The course is designed for those people who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation. It also contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system.
This qualification offers an introduction to this specialised industry sector which in addition to complimenting their current industry qualifications and experience, will enable them to continue to work safely within their role.

The content of this qualification has been designed to give the learners the knowledge and skills required to work safely on Electric/Hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities. This may include vehicles that may have or had damage to their high energy/electrical system.

Skills and knowledge covered:

  • working safely on an electric/hybrid vehicle
  • using information to carry out the task
  • carrying out repairs on high energy electrical systems
  • recording information and making suitable recommendations.

Year One

  • Carrying out repairs on high energy electrical systems
  • Recording information and making suitable recommendations

Year Two

Suitably qualified in a recognised automotive qualification and attained the IMI Level 2 Award in Electric / Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance.

Practice observation

You must be observed by your assessor completing all of the following tasks on at least one occasion:

  • isolate, carry out safety checks and disconnect a high energy system battery
  • remove and test the suitability of a high energy system component
  • refit and reinstate component, carry out safety checks and reset vehicle systems post-repair.

On completion students could progress to the IMI Level 4 Award in Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components.
