The latest cohort of students to study the City and Guilds Level 3 Apprenticeship in Dental Nursing have recently completed their course.

A new career in the rapidly growing area of dental nursing is on the horizon for this group of students and this hands-on course complete with work based learning is the perfect start to getting involved.

Dealing with patients including record management and assisting in treatments as well as reacting quickly in cases of emergency treatments are all part of an exciting and challenging career in dental nursing.

“Completing the dental nursing course at South West College along with great classmates and an amazing tutor was an excellent experience. Help was always available, when needed. I’m hoping to develop my career pathway by applying for a hygienist course at the Trinity College in Dublin.” Aleksandra completed her placement at The Grange Dental Care in Omagh.

Claire Cuthbertson is another Omagh based student who enjoyed the course:
“The course was a great help to develop my skills in work. It was good fun while still learning. It will really help me further my career in the future.” Claire completed her work based learning through Castle Dental Studio in Omagh.

“I found this course very helpful and learned a lot going towards my dental nursing exams. I will continue to nurse as I really enjoy it, learning new things in practice and I couldn’t thank the college and my tutor enough. I would really recommend coming to SWC to carry out this dental course” said Jolene Johnston, a Ballinamallard-based student who completed her placement in Ann Street Dental Practice in Enniskillen.

The course is delivered with a blended learning approach, combining online theory and face-to-face practical elements. All students will be able to achieve a level 3 dental nursing qualification and they can proceed onto the General Dental Council register, the official regulatory body for dentistry professionals in the UK.

“SWC have maintained a 100% pass rate for all students on the course and one-to-one support is always available. The students are taught online and meet face-to-face every 5 weeks during the year of the course.” Charlene McElchar explains, the lecturer of the course at South West College.
