Overview

On successful completion learners will achieve the following:

Pearson BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science (equiv. to 4GCSES)

Essential Skills and Digital at an appropriate level in:

Work Experience Component

  • Block placement- 1 week in semester one and 1 week in semester two (60 hours in total) of employer engagement combined with work placement simulations in the form of lab-based projects carried out onsite
  • Laboratory classes- simulation model with detailed lab books demonstrating investigations
  • Industry focus (lab work, quality testing, manufacturing support)
  • Employer expectations & induction
  • Monitoring and assessment during placement

  • To prepare learners for employment in scientific or manufacturing environments.
  • To support progression to further study or apprenticeships.

You must hold a minimum of a Level 1 qualification, defined as four GCSEs at grades D to G including a minimum of grade D in Maths and English or Essential Skills Level 1 in Numeracy and Literacy.

Entry is subject to an interview with course co-ordinator.

Assessment is continuous throughout the course with a combination of written assignments, practical tasks in the laboratory, presentations and time constraint assignments. The assessment is criterion-referenced, and all units will be individually graded as ‘pass’, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’.

Both oral and written feedback will be provided during your course to help improve and monitor performance.
