Francine’s academic journey into healthcare began at South West College, where she completed the Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC in Applied Science (Biology) before progressing to the BSc Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging programme at Ulster University Magee. With a long‑standing interest in science, she recognised early on that the HNC would provide a strong foundation for her future studies.

During her time at SWC, Francine excelled in a learning environment that blended theory with hands‑on experience. The practical elements of the course were particularly impactful, helping her apply scientific concepts in real‑world contexts and preparing her for the demands of university-level study. She found the modules engaging and directly relevant to her current degree, giving her confidence as she transitioned into higher education.

Francine also speaks highly of the support she received throughout the course. The teaching staff were approachable, knowledgeable, and always willing to help whenever she needed guidance.

Reflecting on her experience, Francine shared: “I really enjoyed my time on the course. The practical elements were so helpful, and I’m now able to apply much of what I learned to my university studies.”

She strongly recommends the HNC in Applied Science to anyone considering a career in science or healthcare. The qualification offers a valuable pathway into a wide range of university courses, including Radiography, Physiotherapy, Biomedical Science, and Microbiology—just as it did for her.
