Overview
This apprenticeship is tailored for individuals aspiring to excel in the dynamic field of maintenance, with a specialised focus on the food industry. Participants will gain hands-on experience, theoretical knowledge, and practical skills essential for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing systems. This comprehensive program has been designed collaboratively with local employers to meet industry standards and prepare apprentices for successful careers in electrical and mechanical maintenance within the unique challenges of the food sector.
The course supports the skills and knowledge development requirements for technician access into the the Food Industry Maintenance sector and contains 3 components: -
1. Engineering Qualifications (Combined)
- Pearson’s BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering
- Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations with additional units
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in an Engineering Pathway Maintenance (Electrical & Mechanical)
2. Essential Skills at Level 2 in:

- Level 3 RSPH Award in Food Safety for Food Manufacturing
- PEO L1 TIG Welding Equipment
- Level 3 Award in The Requirements of Electrical Installation (18th Edition) and safe isolation
- Testing Electrical Equipment and Circuits
College / Employer Attendance
In the first year, you are required to attend class two days per week. For the second and third years, your class attendance is required one day per week. The rest of your week will be spent with your employer.
