The Level 2 Diploma is suited to learners who are working in the care field and who do not have any qualifications in Health and Social Care. Learners must be aged 16+ and employed to avail of Apprenticeship training.
Learners will learn how to provide basic care to clients in a supervised, safe manner. Central to any work as a carer, is that each person is approached in a person centred way and learners will gain the knowledge and skills to operate in this way. It is imperative that carers work in a professional manner at all times, hence the need for confidentiality and the adherence to the NISCC code of conduct.
Learners are required to have a minimum of 6 points on Entry to the programme and a true desire to care. For those in employment, an Access NI undertaken by their employer is satisfactory.
Assessment is a combination of written assignment work with observation in the workplace by a qualified assessor. An assessor will observe the learner carrying out real work activities in accordance with the plan agreed between the assessor and the learner. Learners use E-portfolio for the submission of work and to make contact with their assessor and Internal Verifier.
Learners may progress into employment in the following areas:
When learners have gained a minimum of one years’ experience in the care field, learners may undertake the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care(Adults). This Level 3 programme can be undertaken, if you are employed, aged between 16+ under the Apprenticeship scheme.
Learners undertaking this qualification under the Apprenticeship route must also complete the Level 2 Certificate in Induction into adult social Care. Learners are also encouraged and required to complete essential skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if they do not possess an equivalent Level of qualification in these subject areas. Learners can avail of on-line courses to support their learning.
