Rebecca Hood, an ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) student working for McElholm & Co Chartered Accountants in Omagh has achieved national and global success in the latest ACCA exam sessions.
Rebecca achieved 1st place in Ireland and 10th place globally in the Performance Management exam and 1st place in the UK and 8th place globally in the Taxation exam.
Rebecca joined the firm as a trainee accountant and has been working towards ACCA membership at South West College (SWC), getting off to a flying start! Rebecca said:
“I have a Degree in Biochemistry but it wasn’t a career I wanted to follow. I started with McElholm and Co to gain work experience and soon after I was offered the opportunity to undertake the ACCA programme.
“The course is flexible to the needs of students like myself who work full-time, which makes a huge difference to the work and study balance.
“ACCA is one of the best international finance and accounting qualifications offering great opportunities for career progression. My success in the recent exams has really boosted my confidence as I work towards the next set of exams and getting more work experience under my belt.”
SWC is a Gold Approved Learning Partner of the ACCA – the global body for professional accountants, which employers know and respect. SWC is also the only ACCA accredited centre in Northern Ireland to hold this level of qualification.
Siobhan Breen, Course Director, SWC said:
“At SWC we pride ourselves on producing qualified and ethical finance professionals who have the knowledge and skills that employers expect.
“I am thrilled with Rebecca’s success in the exams, which is a true reflection of her commitment to working and studying to a high professional level.
“South West College has an exceptionally high pass rate of 80% and above, with the global average of 40-45%. Our graduates have gone on to work in accountancy practices, finance departments of public and private companies or as tax advisors.”
Becoming a chartered accountant can lead to a wealth of exciting and interesting job opportunities but whether you are fresh out of school or university, or looking for a change in your career, getting the proper qualification is essential.
South West College offers the ACCA qualifications at two levels – Applied Skills and Strategic Professional Level. As part of the ACCA qualification, students who do not hold an undergraduate degree course will have the opportunity to attain a BSc Hons in partnership with Oxford Brookes University.
