As A’ Level students across the region prepare to embark on the next stage of their academic journey, South West College (SWC) is excited to announce that applications are now open for all courses starting in September 2025 and is inviting prospective students to explore the wide range of university-level programmes, conveniently delivered at their local Further Education College.

With flexible study options, SWC offers a practical and affordable higher education pathway, to help students achieve their ambitions close to home. Its diverse programmes blend high-quality teaching with industry-focused training, addressing key skills gaps. Delivered in collaboration with prestigious institutions like Pearson, Queen’s University Belfast, The Open University, and Ulster University, these courses equip students with recognised qualifications tailored to the demands of today’s workforce labour market.

Choosing the right path after secondary school can feel daunting so SWC encourage students to consider all their available options, including those at their local Further Education College. University-accredited courses at the College include HNCs, HNDs, Foundation degrees, Honours degrees, and Higher Level Apprenticeships in areas such as computing, accountancy, engineering and much more.

Studying locally at SWC comes with many advantages. You’ll save on costs while gaining real-world skills, all within a supportive environment. Students benefit from smaller class sizes, experienced lecturers with industry expertise, and access to world-class learning facilities. Every course is developed in consultation with employers, ensuring graduates are fully equipped for further study or a seamless transition into the workforce.

Celine McCartan, Principal and Chief Executive of South West College, acknowledges the challenges young people face when deciding their next steps:

“Deciding on the next step after leaving school can be a daunting and anxious time and young people and parents don’t always know what career options or learning opportunities are available to them. With the growing costs of university tuition fees and living costs, it is vital that young people wishing to obtain qualifications are aware of the range of options available to help them make better, informed choices and I would encourage them to look at the curriculum offering at their local Further Education College as they look to the next step of their educational journey.”

South West College is dedicated to supporting students make informed choices about their academic and career journeys. Applications for courses starting September 2025 are now open.
