Overview

This Level 2 Traineeship Diploma takes you through a variety of exciting skill development tasks that provide you with the foundation needed to help you progress you’re learning to the next stage. This course consists of Skills Development in the following areas:

  • Drawing
  • Illustration
  • Digital Graphics
  • Moving Image
  • Sound Recording
  • Lens based Skills for Media
  • Digital Communication
  • Digital Skills
  • Animation

In addition, students will develop their communication skills and preparation for progression.

You will develop a broad and valuable range of skills essential for progression into any creative discipline. Alongside the subject-specific content offered in this qualification, you will also build transferable skills that are highly beneficial for further study and future employment. These include effective communication, project planning and management, and creative problem-solving.

Studying this course at SWC will also support your personal development—helping you grow in confidence and encouraging you to take ownership of your direction, work, and choices.

You must hold a minimum of a Level 1 qualification, defined as four GCSEs at grades D to G including Maths and English grades D to E, or equivalent.

Entry is subject to application and introductory meetings with course co-ordinator.

You’ll be assessed throughout the year, and you’ll be expected to complete a range of assignments on an ongoing basis. This includes the production of practical projects with accompanying digitally delivered documentation. Modules are assessed internally and externally moderated. There are no exams.

Achievement of the Full NI Traineeship Diploma

Those that complete the qualifications equivalent to five GCSEs at Grade C passes including English (or Communications Level 2) and Maths (or Application of Number Level 2) will receive an overarching NI Traineeship Diploma issued by the Department for the Economy. Achievement of BTEC Level 2 in Art & Design Skills may allow progression to the BTEC Level 3 in the College subject to entry requirements.

Partial Achievement

Trainees who do not achieve all of the components will be recognised for partial achievement. This may mean that the trainee passes the professional & technical qualification but does not achieve level 2 communication or level 2 numeracy. Trainees who have partial achievement may be able to progress to Further Education Level 3.
