Funding Support for Students
The HND in Art & Design (Art Practice) is an innovative course designed to nurture your creative potential and build your knowledge in the arts industry. This course will prepare you for a successful career as a visual artist. The combination of units will allow you to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work in the area of art and design practice. The curriculum mixes research, problem-solving and teamwork skills with theory and practice in areas such as fine art, painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and design. Skills Focus funding available towards course fees for eligible employers to up skill staff or for self employed students. Please ask for further details.

The minimum entry qualifications for the programme are: 32 UCAS Tariff Points: This must include one full 6-unit award (GCE A2 or equivalent at A- level). 4 GCSE grades A* to C (or equivalent), and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as Maths and English, however students may be required to have GCSE English for articulation on to degree programmes. Access Diploma: Pass relevant subject-related Access course with a minimum of 48 credits at level 3 or above including 14 at Merit.
Project briefs are set for each assignment and students are encouraged to develop a personal response to each task. Students are expected to complete research and develop their own ideas, recording their own progress along the way. Assessment is through practical projects and written course work, where students tackle a range of briefs and studio projects. The curriculum mixes research, problem-solving and teamwork skills with theory and practice in areas such fine art, painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and design.
The BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Art & Design offers a progression route for learners on successful completion of the course. Students may also progress to other universities to complete a degree in associated studies. Usually being accepted onto their second or third year dependent on portfolio, interview and satisfactory completion of the course. The course is designed to prepare students for direct entry into the workplace.
The HND qualifications bring greater emphasis to the professions and opportunities within the creative industries. The combination of units will allow you to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work within one of the most dynamic and growing areas of the global economy. Recognising the diversity of roles within the creative industries, and the need for both specialist technical skills and broad employability skills, these qualifications seek to embed this range of skills throughout the units; stressing both the creative and the professional. Fees are payable annually.
