Funding Support for Students
The course focuses on the importance of communicating with customers and creating positive initial impressions. It will also introduce you to different types of customer complaints and problems. It will provide you with knowledge and understanding of the retail sector. It will introduce you to the supply chain and different types of retail outlets and occupations found within the sector. You will gain knowledge and understanding of maintaining security as well as health and safety on retail premises. It will introduce you to relevant legislation and provide an overview of different procedures for maintaining health, safety and security. It will also include units from:
- Filing Skills
- Understanding Business Meetings
- Using emails
- Developing Computer Skills
- Using Word Processing Software
All of which will broaden your skills and knowledge to cover aspects of business at this level. You will also gain knowledge and understanding of how individuals and teams contribute to the effectiveness of retail businesses as well as introducing you to the main functions of employment law. The course covers the effective characteristics of team building and the activities which can be used for improving the skills and performance of individuals.
In this qualification you will develop knowledge and understanding of the business of retail, the control, replenishment and handling of stock, maintaining health, safety and security, customer service, the retail selling process and how to work individually and in a team to improve the effectiveness of a retail business. You also have the option to develop your knowledge and understanding of retail consumer law, managing other people’s money and handling customer payments, and planning and running an enterprise activity.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however, learners must have the potential to successfully gain the qualification. The minimum age requirement for this qualification is 16 plus.
Achievement of this qualification will be assessed via knowledge workbooks, role paly and participation in group tasks and events covering all the assessment criteria. Practical assessments will be assessed on work based evidence and direct observation in the workplace.
After completion of the level 1 programme there is progression to any Level 2 Traineeships including Retail and Administration. This comes with attainment of Level 1 in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT. All students are required to find an appropriate work placement.
You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT at an appropriate level if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skills in English, Maths and Information Technology. You will also study broader transferable skills in Employability and Personal and Social Development where appropriate.
