English not your first language? ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses are available for those who want to improve their English speaking/listening/reading/writing for life and work in the UK. Classes take place once a week for three hours from September to June in all campuses. They may be available in the morning or in the evening, depending on demand. Recruitment/Open Days/Enrollment days - Cookstown, Dungannon, Enniskillen and Omagh Campus days are as follow: Thursday 19th August 10.00 am - 6.00pm (All campuses except Cookstown) Wednesday 25th August 1.00 pm - 8.00 pm (All campuses) Tuesday 31st August 5.00pm - 9.00pm (All campuses) We offer 5 levels starting from Entry 1 up to Level 2 with City and Guilds. After successful completion of tests in class, students achieve a certificate at the appropriate level.
When enrolling learners need to complete an assessment to find out their level (unless they are a beginner) and they will be given the times/days for the course at that level. If a learner already has an ESOL certificate, bring it along on enrolment/recruitment day to speed things and we will place them at the next level. Learners will receive some help to complete the application process.
If learners complete a level in a year, they may progress to the following level until they complete Level 2. Once learners complete Level 1, it is possible for them to access other part-time courses in the college such as Essential skills Maths, ICT and Communication or vocational subjects, depending on the entry criteria for each subject. They can also enquire about full-time FE courses. After completing Level 2, learners may want to continue with GCSE English.
This Skills for Life qualification has been designed to enable and encourage students to acquire the relevant skills needed to enjoy life in the UK, access services such as health and education, and advance in their professional career. You learn the appropriate grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and intonation at each of the levels, as well as citizenship topics. Everyday topics that are covered are: Travel, Transport and Holidays; Health, Safety and Welfare; Home, Family and Friends; Area where you live; Hobbies and Interests; Education; Sports and Fitness; Work (applying for jobs, CVs; communication at work); Shopping; Gadgets and Technology; Food and Drink, as well as other associated themes and topics that may be suitable for each particular group of learners.
