Making learning more meaningful for our students
At South West College we see the need to make learning more meaningful for our students. In accordance with the review of the Further Education model by the Department for the Economy, Project Based Learning will play a critical role to implement this.
Project Based Learning helps make students more employable by providing them with real life projects that they can take into their future career journey improving vital soft skills and interview techniques.
Project Based Learning has now been implemented across all curriculum areas.
As part of the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diplomas, students complete an additionality called Career Builder. This programme enables students complete to real life projects and work on their employability/study skills. On achievement of this qualification, students will gain UCAS points to help with university application.
Within the Traineeship qualification framework, students will complete the OCN NI Level 2 Transversal Skills qualification. Whilst completing this, students work in groups through a PBL project gaining vital employability and communication skills.
With this programme, students gain an additional 8 UCAS points through an OCN NI Qualification and have the opportunity to work with a live industry client. The level 2 Traineeships also intergrate PBL into their vocational studies.
