South West College is delighted to announce the launch of GOLD Careers, an initiative offering students seamless progression pathways within various subject areas. The college is committed to providing local students with a journey that leads to limitless career and professional development opportunities without any dead ends.

The GOLD Careers initiative will ensure that students can make informed decisions about their education while minimizing roadblocks or uncertainties, empowering them to achieve their full potential and pursue dream career ambitions.

Gold Careers offers students a potential 4 or 5 year career path which starts with a Level 2 or Level 3 Apprenticeship or Traineeship and upon successful completion the opportunity to progress to a Level 4, 5 or 6 qualification with the college offering Higher National Certificates, Higher National Diplomas, Foundation Degrees, Honours Degrees and Higher Level Apprenticeships. The initiative seeks to promote greater access to Higher Education at a regional level and life-long learning opportunities.

Padraig McNamee, Director of Curriculum at South West College said;

“The GOLD Careers initiative has been designed to provide students with the guidance, support and opportunities they need to excel both academically and professionally. We have developed pathways in a number of subject areas that are aligned to industry demand and job market trends. Local students can begin their journey with a Level 2 Apprenticeship or Traineeship and progress through to honours degree level, offering endless career possibilities.

We know that students appreciate the flexibility offered by our curriculum and for many the opportunity to earn while they learn allows them to remain in education and secure industry leading qualifications. Our popular programme of Higher-Level Apprenticeships also helps reduce the financial burden faced by students continuing to Higher Education as they can progress without the worry of tuition fee and maintenance loans.”

Commending South West College on the GOLD Careers initiative, Moyra Flannery, HR Manager at McCloskey International Engineering said;

‘The GOLD Careers pathway provides the right balance in education and professional experience for apprentices to thrive and progress into greater responsibility within our business.

The staff at South West College understand our business and we look forward to continuing our successful collaboration and ensuring that our apprentices reap the benefits of that.

Nicola Leitch, Early Careers Programme Lead at Moy Park added;

GOLD Careers is an exciting initiative that we are delighted to endorse. We are pleased that it extends across a number of different subject areas including Business, Accountancy and Engineering. We look forward to continuing our partnership with South West College to recruit and develop future generations of apprentices and supporting them on their professional journey within Moy Park and in attaining their qualifications at the college.
