The scheme supports Higher Education students interested in pursuing a career in Engineering and contributes financial support towards the next step in their educational journey, enabling students to reach their full potential.

The scholarship was awarded to Antoinette Marshall and Peter Spence, for their incredible passion, determination, and achievements both within their studies and community.

Antoinette Marshall studying on the HNC Level 4 Engineering course at the SWC Dungannon campus, hopes to bring her creative project to life and make a real difference for disadvantaged learners.

She said, "I am eternally grateful to receive the Strickland Scholarship Award, which I believe will open up many doors for me both studiously and professionally. I'm excited to have been given this opportunity to progress within the field of Engineering, having come from a background in the creative industries. My plan is to transition into product/software design and development via study and through entrepreneurial escapades.

I am currently using a portion of the money to fund my own research and design into a creative conceptual project which supports and assists young people and adults with ADHD in the workplace and in education."

Similarly, Peter Spence studying on the Ulster University Foundation Degree in Engineering with Specialisms (Manufacturing) - Higher Level Apprenticeship was delighted to receive the award and intends to progress within the Engineering sector.

Alastair Booth, Head of School for Engineering said, ‘South West College are very proud to be partnered with Strickland to celebrate the success of Higher Education and Higher Level Apprentice students studying Engineering at the College’.

South West College offers a wide range of Engineering courses from Level 2 to 6, with Higher Level Apprenticeship options and scholarship initiatives, that full-time Higher Education students can apply for in the academic year 2022/23.
