Funding Support for Students
This one-year course is suited to students interested in a career in the hair industry. Students will be trained in a realistic working environment in the College’s state-of-the-art salons. Students will experience the normal day-to-day running of a hairdressing salon and will engage with customers and potential employers. This will ensure students are ready to begin an exciting journey within hairdressing industry.
The course focuses on practical learning and gives students an insight into the innovative hairdressing industry. Students will gain practical skills in shampooing and conditioning, setting/dressing hair services, colouring, cutting, and styling techniques. The course will also give you knowledge on relevant health, safety, and science. These are all important to ensure you are ready to work in the hairdressing industry.
Applicants are required to hold a minimum of a Level 1 qualification which is 4 GCSEs at Grades D-G. For this programme, this should include Maths Grade D and English Grade D. Applicants who do not meet this enhanced entry criteria can still apply and will enter an introductory phase of the traineeship. Upon enrolment the applicant will undertake an initial assessment which will confirm whether they should enter the full Traineeship or the Introductory Phase.
A combination of practical observations, written tasks, on-line theory tests and a final skills project are used to assess this qualification.
On completion of this course students will be eligible to enter employment in Hairdressing Industry in a junior position in the salon. Alternatively, students may wish to further their studies by progressing onto the Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing, or alternative programmes in Beauty Therapy, Nail Technology or Hair and Media Make-up.
The College will enhance the learning experience of students by providing opportunities to gain additional qualifications, engage with industry experts and participate in workshops relevant to the industry.
Students will have the opportunity to gain qualifications in Numeracy, Literacy, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) if required.
