Overview

This Level 3 qualification enhances the underlying principles and practical skills required in hairdressing. It is designed to deliver a high level of occupational competence and provide a sound platform from which to progress into employment within the hairdressing industry. Work placement is an integral part of the course. This course is also available as an apprenticeship.

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing consists of the following units: Monitor and Maintain Health and Safety Practice in the Salon; Promote Additional Services or Products; Consultation; Cut Hair to Achieve a Variety of Looks; Style and Dress Hair using a Variety of Looks; Colour Hair to Create a Variety of Looks; and Hair Colour Correction. The College also will enhance the learning experience of students throughout the year to gain additional qualifications, engage with industry experts and participate in workshops relevant to the industry.

Students must have a current Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing or equivalent and a placement secured. Learners will be required to purchase a uniform and kit that is available from the College upon commencement of this programme. Entry is subject to a successful interview.

A combination of practical observation, assessment and on-line theory tests are used to assess this qualification.

Students may take up employment in a commercial salon as a senior stylist with supervisory skills or progress to other specialist qualifications in Hairdressing, including the Foundation Degree in Hair and Beauty Management (with Specialisms). On completion of this course learners may be eligible to enter employment in salons as Trainers, Advisors or Managers.

Students will be required to purchase a uniform and kit at the start of the programme.
