Overview

The CIPD Foundation Certificate in People Practice is ideal for anyone who wants to make a start on their career in the people profession, or for anyone looking to enhance their understanding of the key principles of HR to use when managing people effectively. Completion of the course will give you Foundation Membership of the CIPD (subject to membership) and you'll be able to use the designatory letters Foundation CIPD after your name.

The course is delivered face to face in classroom sessions and covers 4 modules to gain a solid understanding and deliver tasks that benefit your organisation at an operational level:

- Business, culture and change in context

This unit considers the impact of external influences and how the digital and commercial environment shapes businesses and the culture within which they operate. It considers the importance of people’s behaviour on organisational culture and its ability to manage change effectively.

- Principles of analytics

This unit looks at how people professionals make both straightforward and complex choices as they carry out their roles. It focuses on how applying a diverse range of analytics and evidence is essential to the rationalisation and enhancement of working practices, and situational decision making to create value.

- Core behaviours for people professionals

This unit introduces the core behaviours for people professionals, focusing on ethical practice to create value. It considers how certain ways of thinking and acting should be universally consistent, even in new and challenging situations. So, to promote a sense of well-being and inclusivity in the organisation.

- Essentials of people practice

This unit introduces the fundamentals of people practice, ranging from the employee lifecycle to policies, regulation and law. It further explores a diverse array of specialist subjects, such as recruitment, talent management, reward and learning and development. All are essential to a career in people practice. Importantly, this unit enables practitioners to apply their knowledge and skills, building their confidence and ability to practice progressively.

Entry is subject to interview. You must hold: 4 GCSEs, grades A-C, to include English and Maths (Where candidates do not have GCSE English/ Maths, they can enrol on Essential Skills Literacy/ Numeracy at SWC)It is desirable that applicants are working in a people practice role or have the opportunity to be exposed to elements of people practice operations.

All units are coursework based, using CIPD -set assignment briefs, and are completed on a continuing basis.

Successful achievement of the CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in People Practice may allow progression onto the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management (providing sufficient operational experience has also been attained).

Students are required to complete and maintain student membership with CIPD for the duration of the course until certification has been issued by CIPD. These fees are paid directly to CIPD; see https://www.cipd.co.uk/membership/grades/student for further details on current fees.

Students are required to:

  • Comply with College Policies and procedures, rules and regulations (available in your Student Diary/Further Education Handbook, on-line: www.swc.ac.uk and on the College VLE).
  • Submit all coursework and assessments by specified dates, coursework submitted without consent after the deadline shall not normally be accepted.
  • Pass all modules within the given timeframe to gain full certificate.
  • Attend at least 90% of classroom sessions
