Tyrone continued their 2019 campaign when they hosted Galway in their final league fixture, where they staged a miraculous second half comeback, inspired largely by captain, Matthew Donnelly, Peter Harte and Conall McCann, who each scored valuable goals to help defeat their opponents by 7 points. Tyrone’s win secured them a Top 4 finish for the 2019 NFL season.

With Tyrone’s NFL campaign ending it paved the way for the eager return of Tyrone ACL club fixtures. In Division 1 Omagh St Endas made the trip to East Tyrone, where they were defeated by 2018 County Champions Coalisland Na Fianna. A week later they made the shorter trip to neighbouring Tattyreagh St Patricks. Both clubs met for the first time as Division 1 opponents in a mouth-watering Parish Derby. Despite poor conditions the game was entertaining throughout, with Carl McCabe’s St Endas eventually securing a 1 point victory over the spirted Tatts.

Moving on to soccer and in the Mulhern Cup Irvinestown Wanderers recorded a 5-0 drubbing over Strule United to reach the quarter finals, before they ultimately fell short against holders Tummery Athletic, who recorded a 3-2 win. Tummery went on to record a comeback 2-1 victory over Beragh Swifts in the semi-finals to reach their second consecutive Mulhern Cup final.

In the 1st leg of the Division 2 league cup semi-final Magereaveely FC secured a 4-1 victory over Omagh Hospitals to gain a key advantage for the second leg. Despite being defeated 2-0 by the Hossies in the second leg, Magheraveely progressed on a 4-3 aggregate score-line. They would go on to lose the final to Enniskillen Athletic.

In Division 1 Strule United were relegated back to Division 2 after falling to a 3-0 defeat to Beragh Swifts at Donnelly’s Holm. In the League of Ireland a trip to Finn Park (Ballybofey) was made to attend Finn Harps v Shamrock Rovers, where the hosts put on a solid defensive display, before Rovers midfielder Gary Bolger sadly broke Finn Harps hearts by breaking the deadlock 5 minutes before full time, to secure a vital 1-0 victory.

In the Northern Ireland Futsal League Sparta Belfast defeated Omagh Futsal club by a 7-1 score line in a match that was played at the Omagh Leisure Complex.

Congratulations too to all the teams and individuals who gained success in the last month! We can look forward to another great month of local sport ahead.
