A group of 12 students from South West College are currently attending a three week work placement with their lectures in Helsingborg, Sweden funded through Erasmus+. There are six Childcare Learning Development and six Health and Social Care students from across all three SWC campuses. They were placed in a variety of organisations on their related discipline. Child Care students were placed at an International School in Helsingborg in both pre-primary and primary classes, whilst Health Care students experienced work in three different care homes and special needs centres.
The students went to Sweden as part of their course work placement requirements. These students were selected after interview to receive funding to broaden their horizons, add cultural experiences to their CV, and understand health care and child care systems in another European Country, the students will also gain personal development through their experience.
Jenni McGullion, lecturer of Health and Life Services, who is accompanying the students at present stated "The placements where students have been placed are really superb, it will provide excellent experience for all the students".
Sweden has an excellent reputation in the fields of Health Care and Child Care consequently providing a valuable insight for the students. South West College has developed a working relationship with Victum Gymnasium, which is the equivalent of a further education college here, which specialises in teaching in these two areas.
Hans Dahlin, Co-Director, Victum Gymnasium, "We have had many positive comments about your students from the staff on our placements". This excellent feedback makes the trip more meaningful to the students to know their work is valued. The experienced gained is invaluable for both students and lectures. Hopefully exchanges like this will continue to occur as they are extremely worthwhile.
