South West College (SWC) is vying for the most prestigious recognition of best practice within the tertiary education sector, having made the shortlist for finalist in the ‘best newcomer’ category for work in the area of sustainability with the prestigious Green Gown Awards, presented by the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges (EAUC).
The Green Gown Awards recognise the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities, colleges and the learning and skills sectors across the UK. With sustainable development moving up the global agenda, the Awards are now established as the most prestigious recognition of sustainability excellence within the tertiary education sector, as well as the environmental sector.
Celine McCartan, Deputy Director and Head of Corporate and Student Services at SWC said: “At South West College we recognise that our day to day activities can have a positive or negative impact upon the environment however the College is committed to minimising its environmental footprint and delivering excellent and sustainable learning opportunities.”
South West College is continuing to make great strides to enhance its ‘green credentials’, with the introduction of a series of eco-friendly initiatives in areas of energy efficiency, water, waste management and sustainable transport.
The Green Gown Awards ceremony takes place on 26th November 2015 in Bristol – the European Green Capital for 2015.
