Success, Dedication and Achievement Recognised at South West College Awards

02 Jul 2026

South West College (SWC) recently hosted its annual Celebration of Success Awards, recognising the outstanding achievements of Further Education students, apprentices and Schools Partnership pupils from across the region.

Held at the College’s Omagh, Dungannon and Erne campuses, the ceremonies celebrated learners who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, determination and excellence in their studies, skills development and wider contributions to college life and their communities.

Hundreds of students were honoured during the events, joined by proud family members, friends and tutors who gathered to celebrate their accomplishments across a broad range of programmes, including Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas. Many award recipients will now progress to higher education, whether at SWC or university, while others are preparing to take the next step into employment and their chosen careers.

The celebrations were hosted by SWC Principal and Chief Executive, Celine McCartan, and featured a series of inspirational guest speakers who shared their personal and professional journeys, encouraging students to embrace the opportunities ahead with confidence and ambition.

During the Omagh campus ceremony, students heard from Councillor Debbie Coyle, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and Peter Hughes, Technology Integration Leader at Optum. Drawing on their own experiences, both speakers highlighted the importance of determination, resilience and lifelong learning, demonstrating how education can open doors to rewarding and fulfilling careers.

At the Erne campus, Fiacre O’Donnell, Sustainability Director at Encirc, encouraged students to view their education as a foundation for future success, inspiring them to approach the next stage of their journey with confidence, ambition and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.

At the Dungannon campus, Paul Eagleson, Deputy Head of Department for Sustainability, Construction and Transport at SWC, reflected on his own education and career journey. He reminded students that challenges can often lead to new opportunities and emphasised that there is no single route to success, encouraging them to remain open to the many opportunities and pathways that lie ahead.

Congratulating this year's award recipients, South West College Principal and Chief Executive, Celine McCartan, said:

"Congratulations to all our award recipients. Today is a celebration of your hard work, dedication and achievements, as well as the support of your families, friends and lecturers. We are incredibly proud of your success and wish you every success in the next stage of your journey.

"Our programmes continue to be highly regarded by inspecting and awarding bodies, reflecting our commitment to delivering high-quality education that equips the next generation of skilled professionals, innovators and entrepreneurs with the knowledge and confidence to succeed."
