Primary and Secondary schools in Tyrone and Fermanagh immersed themselves in Plant, Pollinator and Biodiversity workshops with South West College (SWC) Sustainability Officer – Supriya Foster. The outreach initiative focused on addressing climate change, pollinator decline and practical ways to promote biodiversity.
Over a two-week period, over 700 pupils participated in the workshops, which aimed to educate, inspire, and engage young minds in various aspects of climate change and sustainability. The interactive workshops took place at both the SWC Omagh campus and the Enniskillen Crest Centre, focusing on the importance of pollinators and their role in the ecosystem. Pupils from a range of different schools including Christ the King PS, Omagh County Primary School, Holy Family PS Omagh, St John's College Dromore, St Mary's PS Brookeborough, Enniskillen Integrated Primary School, St Mary's Primary School, Teemore, Ballinamallard Primary & Community Nursery School, and St Mary’s PS, St. Mary's P.S Maguiresbridge, were all in attendance.
Supriya Foster, Sustainability Officer at South West College, said, "Sustainability is a fundamental value for South West College and a strategic priority. We are thrilled to share our expertise and knowledge to enhance the education of young individuals. The pupils not only enjoyed the session but also had a great time learning while discovering ways to protect and support pollinators.
