South West College recognise student achievements at Celebration of Success Awards 2024

South West College (SWC) recently held its annual 'Celebration of Success Awards' to honour the exceptional achievements of Further Education, Apprenticeship Students, and Schools Partnership pupils. The ceremonies, which took place at the Omagh, Dungannon, and Erne campuses, celebrated the academic, skills, and community excellence of hundreds of outstanding learners. Family, friends, and tutors came together to applaud the accomplishments of the top learners in SWC's various courses, including Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 Diplomas. These learners will now move on to pursue higher education at the College, University, or secure employment.

During the events, Campus Managers at each location warmly welcomed students and their families from Tyrone, Fermanagh, and Mid-Ulster while recognizing the hard work and determination shown by each learner.

Omagh Campus

At the Omagh campus, guest speaker Benny O’Hanlon, Omagh Chamber of Commerce/Ulster Herlad ‘Businessperson of the Year’ and founder of Todds Leap, delivered an inspiring message emphasizing the importance of education and lifelong learning, highlighting the significance of cherishing success, being proud of achievements, and setting goals for the future.

Erne Campus

At the Erne campus Guest speaker Joe McGirr, Founder of Boatyard Distillery and former SWC student, shared his inspiring journey to success. Joe highlighted how his education and passion for hospitality played a crucial role in setting up his own distillery business, emphasizing the importance of education as a stepping stone to achieving future success.

Dungannon Campus

During the Dungannon campus celebration of success, we were honoured to have former student Jane Dunseath as our special guest speaker. Jane's journey at the college began as a Year 11 Occupational Studies student, and she later pursued full-time studies in Level 2 and Level 3 childcare. Currently, she is completing her honours Degree in Special Educational Needs and Disability Studies at Liverpool Hope University. Jane shared her inspiring post-SWC journey with us, reminding everyone to strive towards their dreams and make them a reality.

Celine Mc Cartan, South West College Principal and Chief Executive, offered closing remarks and expressed delight for another successful year while extending congratulations to all students.

“To each of the learners collecting awards today, I offer you my warmest congratulations. This is your day, one I am sure you have been looking forward to sharing in the company of your fellow classmates and lecturers, and of course with your family and friends, who have supported you every step of the way.

Today we acknowledge the best of the best, some awards recognise academic and skills excellence, whilst others reflect the dedication and commitment you have made to our college community and your future success. I hope you and your guests enjoy this memorable day, and I wish you continued success in the next stage of your career.”
