South West College recognise participants achievements at ‘Going Places’ Celebration of Success event

Recently, the Going Places Programme run by the South West College in Strabane and funded by the Department for Communities, held its annual celebration of success. The event, held at the North West Regional College (NWRC) building in Strabane, recognised the success and achievements of 39 participants who engaged with the programme over the past year.

In 2025-26 this project has given residents from local Neighbourhood Renewal Areas in Strabane the opportunity to gain a range of qualifications, including Health and Social Care and Customer Service. In addition, Participants are also given the opportunity to gain their driving licence, with funded driving lessons provided and support for the theory test and practical test.

The Going Places also offers support for job search, CV building and support with interviews. There is a focus on breaking down barriers and building confidence and self-esteem, promoting employability and personal development. A dedicated Mentor is available to participants throughout their time on the programme to offer support and guidance.”

Speaking about the success of the programme, Going Places Lead Mentor Monica Langan said: “This has been another successful year for the programme, in total there was 49 qualifications achieved, 24 residents given the opportunity to learn how to drive and 14 residents secured Full-time or Part-time employment.”
