Over 1,500 Prospective Students Attend South West College Open Days 2026 11 Mar 2026 More than 1,500 prospective students and parents attended South West College’s recent 2026 Open Day events, braving challenging weather conditions and storm warnings to explore the wide range of opportunities available for school leavers across the College’s campuses. Despite the adverse weather, visitors from across Fermanagh and Tyrone turned out in large numbers to meet lecturers, tour facilities and learn more about the extensive range of professional, technical and vocational courses, apprenticeships and higher education pathways available. The strong turnout follows the publication of the latest Department for the Economies Further Education Sector Activity in Northern Ireland: 2020/21 to 2024/25 Bulletin, which highlight South West College’s continued growth and strong performance across the further education sector. The report shows that over 14,000 learners – representing approximately 6% of the local population – were enrolled at the College during the 2024/25 academic year, alongside improved student success rates. Over the last five years, South West College has increased enrolments by 51%, while maintaining an overall success rate of 82%, above the sector average. Principal and Chief Executive Celine McCartan welcomed both the strong attendance at the Open Days and the positive results highlighted in the latest bulletin: “Our students and staff have worked incredibly hard to achieve these results and the latest Department for the Economy figures show just how far we’ve come,” she said.“We are proud to offer courses that give ambitious young people practical skills, strong career pathways and real choices about their future. What’s particularly significant is the shift we are seeing in young people’s choices. BTEC qualifications, apprenticeships and higher-level apprenticeships are now just as popular — and increasingly the preferred option — compared to traditional A-Levels and university pathways for school leavers and our learners.“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all staff and students whose hard work, dedication and commitment have played a vital role in the College’s continued growth and success. I would also encourage young, ambitious school leavers and prospective students who are considering their next steps to explore the wide range of opportunities the College has to offer.” Apply today Applications for courses starting in September 2026 are now open Apply Today Share Sign up.
