South West College in association with the Western Health and Social Services Trust have announced a new Smart Region Internship Programme. It is hoped that this Internship programme will contribute to the improvement of the health and wellbeing of the population of the South West region, utilising the resources of both organisations. This Programme is part of the Smart Region working group tasked with delivering ‘new thinking and new actions to the South West region to create the jobs required to build a sustainable future’. Speaking at the launch Arlene Foster, Minister for Enterprise Trade and Investment said; “Plans to recruit four interns in each of the following areas, IT System support, Multimedia - Development of medical device applications; E-Learning Technology and Product Design - Design and Prototyping of Medical Devices will provide a huge boost to young people seeking to stay in this region and gain advanced industry experience”. The employing organisation will be the SWC with interns based at locations including; South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen; C-TRIC Clinical Translational Research and Innovation Centre, Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry/Londonderry; Idea Product Design Centre, South West College, Omagh; Image Creative Technologies Studio, South West College, Enniskillen. Malachy McAleer, Director South West College said; “Interns will be given the opportunity to work on a series of innovative projects involving the support and development of IT systems, medical device prototypes, software applications and e-learning solutions, providing high-end training and development opportunities for young people in the South West Region”.
