The Great British Barber Bash (GBBB) showcase events all over the world from London to Dubai, demonstrating the latest barbering techniques to their audience. Four top barbers including Ryan Cullen from Armagh and Conor Taaffe from Drogheda, are leading the way in barbering, and Ryan and Conor’s success is known all over the world. The team held a Barber Bash at South West College, Dungannon campus. The event seen almost 200 people attend with some travelling as far as Sligo to attend.
There was a practical experience session exclusively for South West College Barbering students. The professional barbers gave one to one advice to the students while they cut a client’s hair in the barbering salon within the college. This experience is invaluable to the students to learn new techniques from the professionals.
Marian Colton, a business Services Lecturer said “there was four top barbers and a compare with a crowd of almost 200 people. It was such a fantastic show for local barbers and hairdressers and a great opportunity for the barbering students to learn new skills by top barbers.”
Conor Taaffe explains to the audience during the event, “You have to be confident and professional when delivering a service and advise your client. Barbers need to explain to the client how to create the look themselves, however they must create the look effortlessly but perfectly to encourage the client to come back. Barbering is taking time on each client individually but also being time efficient to fit all your clients in, this may even include offering them a cup of tea and biscuits to improve your service.”
The culture of barbering is changing, it is now a cool career and more men are wanting to create more fashionable looks and distinguish themselves as a person. Men’s hair styles was searched more times than women’s for the first time ever in 2016, trends are changing, there is nearly more men’s products for hair than women’s. Barbering has taken off with men paying more attention of how they wish to perceive themselves. 2017 is set to see a growth in men’s products and fashion, it is time for the ladies to up their game.
