Student Spotlight: Jordan Jones
As a mum of two, I needed a course that could fit around family life, so studying part-time in the evenings at South West College was the perfect choice. I genuinely looked forward to my Monday evenings each week. It became something that was just for me – a chance to learn, meet new people and build my confidence.
One of the highlights of my time at college was having such a brilliant tutor who made learning fun, enjoyable and encouraging. I also met so many lovely people along the way, and it was great to be surrounded by others who were learning something new too.
I'm especially proud of passing my Level 3 Body Massage course with a distinction. At the beginning, I was nervous about returning to education and, being a little older, I definitely lacked confidence. Looking back now, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Stepping outside my comfort zone turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made.
Today, I work as a Massage Therapist and Facialist, doing a job I genuinely love. Studying at South West College gave me the confidence to turn something I'd always been interested in into a career. Even better, it allows me to work around my children, giving me a great balance between family life and work.
The experience inspired my husband too, and after seeing how much I enjoyed my course, he decided to complete a part-time course himself.
If I could give one piece of advice to anyone thinking about studying, it would be this: it's never too late to learn a new skill. You never know where it could lead. South West College gave me the confidence to believe in myself, and I would happily go back and do another course in the future.
My biggest motivation is showing my children that learning doesn't stop when you leave school. No matter what stage of life you're at, you can always challenge yourself, develop new skills and enjoy the journey. I hope to continue growing my massage therapy career, meeting new people and helping clients relax and feel their very best.
