This technical diploma is aimed at those interested in following a career path in IT/Computing who have achieved less than four GCSEs at Grade C. This course provides a practical, work related introduction to Computing and IT.
Learners will be inspired to learn by completing projects and 100% coursework based with no exams that are based on the latest IT technologies and creative industries such as programming, computer graphics and website development. Mobile technology, WhatsApp, robotics, cyber security, drones and use Alexa/Google Home will be taught throughout the course in addition to an OCN NI Social Media qualification. They will also be given the opportunity to improve thier employability and personal development skills through work experience and completion of th OCN NI Workskills qualification.
There are six units over one year of full time study: and will include a variety of units eg. Communicating in the IT Industry; Working in the IT Industry; Computer Graphics; Developing Programming Solutions; Installing Hardware Components; Database Systems and Web Development. Units taught vary from campus to campus.

A minimum of two GCSEs at Grade C or above is required.
As a practical, vocational course, assessment will be carried out through the use of projects that is 100% coursework based with no exams, internally assessed by the lecturers over two semesters. Learners can attain Pass, Merit and Distinction grades which will be combined to produce one final grade at the end of the course.
This qualification has been designed to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required to enable progression to further education in the same or related areas, progress onto Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Computing (QCF) course or gain employment within the computer industry. Career Pathways include IT Technician, IT Sales and Technical Support.
Students will also be offered:- OCN NI Level 2 Award in Skills for Employment Training and Personal Development/Work Experience/OCN NI Level 2 Social Media/Essential skills in Communication, Numeracy and ICT/GCSE Maths & English resit.*The fees quoted are payable for each year.
