Students typically create a 3-D architectural model of a chosen project which can be used not only for rendering and animation purposes, but also to create working drawings and enable collaborative working on a project. BIM is fast becoming the industry standard and the basic knowledge gained through completion of this course ensures students maintain an edge in the market. Students will focus on the practical use of the package, with all the functions needed to create a usable model of their chosen building. There will be an opportunity to investigate the emergence of BIM software and implications for the sector.

There are no formal course entry requirements, however, students are expected to have a good knowledge of CAD, and interest or experience in the construction sector.

The Flexible Skills Fund programme will be accessible to all groups, those in employment and unemployment. To be eligible for these courses participants must be:

  • over 18 years of age;
  • eligible to work in Northern Ireland;
  • settled’ in Northern Ireland, and has been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years; or
  • is a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK

Assessment is entirely based on the phased submission of a portfolio of evidence, some written, but mostly based on the overall architectural model created.
