Learning the underpinning knowledge to do the job once employed. The learner will ensure, that each client is approached in a person-centred way and learners will gain the knowledge to operate in this way. It is imperative that carers work in a professional manner at all times, hence the need for confidentiality and the adherence to the NISCC code of conduct. Level 3 carers will also learn about the importance of recording accurately and reporting appropriately within the policies and procedures of the organisation.
To achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Induction into Adult Social Care in Northern Ireland, learners must achieve 21 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 3 credits from the optional units available.
Mandatory Units: Principles of communication in adult social care settings; Principles of personal development in adult social care settings; Principles of Diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings; Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care; Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children's and young People's settings; Understand the role of the social care worker; Understand person centred approaches in adult social care settings; Understand health and safety in social care settings; Understand how to handle information in social care settings; Understand employment responsibilities and rights in health, social care or children and young people’s setting.
Optional Units: Understand employment responsibilities and rights in health, social care or children and young People's settings.
It is highly recommended that learners have completed the City and Guilds Level 2 in Health and Social Care qualification or equivalent, plus have a minimum of one year experience in the care field. Learners are required to undertake an Access NI Check.
Assessment is mainly through written assignments. Learners use E-portfolio for the submission of work and contact with their assessor and Internal Verifier.
Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care.
No placement is required for this knowledge based qualification however it is beneficial when applying theory to practice.
